What is a Medical Appraisal?

The medical appraisal is a process of facilitated self-review supported by information gathered from the full scope of a doctor’s work. 

We start with looking back at your achievements and challenges and lessons learnt, including reviewing the previous year’s personal development plan objectives and move forwards to your aspirations, learning needs and the recording of new personal development plan objectives.

As medical appraisers, our role is crucial in ensuring a high quality and consistent appraisal process for doctors. Therefore, we provide you services for preparation for appraisals and the revalidation process.

How can we help?

We are here for doctors and medical professionals in the UK primarily for medical appraisals and revalidation as it is a mandatory requirement from the General Medical Council.

We provide quality assured, independent and impartial professional appraisal services for doctors and healthcare professionals.

​ We can additionally offer support and guidance for services in preparation for the responsible officer and a designated body.

What's the process of
Appraisal Preparation and Finalisation?

We understand that the process of the appraisal can be daunting but we’re committed to helping doctors every step of the way and providing useful services to take care of all their needs.

In Short, there are 3 steps in the process:

Appraisal Preparation

Pre-Appraisal

You are required to complete various sections within your organisation designated forms for Appraisal to show completed activities such as:

Continuous Professional Development Activities and reflections from Seminars, Webinars, Workshops, Courses, etc.

 Quality Improvement Activities - Audits, Research papers published, etc.

Gather Multi-source feedback from Supervisors, Co-workers, Administrators, Patients, etc.

Identify areas of improvement and development needs for your next appraisal.

Day of Appraisal

Appraisal

We set up a date to meet and discuss all the information that you submitted in the Appraisal.

We reflect on all the activites you mentioned and discuss your plans for the coming year.

We discuss what your peers and patients have been saying about you. Reflect upon the positives and learn from some constructive criticism.

We together identify your goals and aspirations and where you would like to be in the coming years.

In short, we are here to support, encourage and guide!

Submission of Report

Post-Appraisal

Once we have finished the Appraisal meeting, I will then submit a report of the appraisal along with my comments within the forms. 

You will then be notified that this report has been submitted and a pdf of this will be available to you to be viewed. 

Once you agree, the Appraisal in completed.

We then reflect on this appraisal the following year when undergoing the next appraisal. 

Revalidation happens every 5 years and
it would be quite a smooth process for you if you have your appraisal copies for each of the years leading up to the Revalidation year.

I am highly experienced and certified medical appraiser. I started my journey into orthopaedics from India and have been a part of the NHS for over 30+ years since. I am therefore well versed with the system and am able to share pathways into the from my personal experiences.

I am up to date with the latest requirements for GMC Appraisals and Revalidations and meet the GMC requirements to undertake appraisals for medical doctors.
